Application of Air Purification Module with Electrostatic Precipitator and Photocatalytic System for

Absrtact
In this project, the air purification module with the combination of electrostatic precipitator and photocatalytic system was developed to simultaneously remove the oil droplet, dust, and odor molecules (VOCs) from the restaurant discharges. The metal-deposited TiO2 (Pt-TiO2, Pd-TiO2, Ag-TiO2, Ni-TiO2, Fe-TiO2, Co-TiO2) were prepared by the photodeposition process. The photocatalytic activity of the metal-deposited TiO2 was determined based on the photocatalytic decompositions of toluene and dimethyl sulfide. Based on the preparation cost and the photocatalytic activity of photocatalyst, TiO¬2 and Ag-TiO was applied for the photocatalytic system of the air purification module to carry out the long-term performance test at the restaurant discharge of NTUST. The mineralization of VOCs and the species of the inlet and outlet gas streams were measured by a flame ionization detector and the GC-MS. The test results showed that approximately 32% of VOCs was converted to CO2 and water in the air purification module with the 185 and 254 nm combined UV light possibly because of the ozone generation in the presence of oxygen. Almost 42% of VOCs mineralization was achieved by the air purification module with Ag-TiO2 and the 185 and 254 nm combined UV light sources. The air purification module developed by this project is adequately applied to the equipment for cleaning restaurant discharge.
