Preliminary Research and Planning on Accelerated Weathering of Limestone for Carbon Dioxide Reductio

Absrtact
Carbon dioxide in the flue gas can be converted to manageable bicarbonate solution by using Accelerated Weathering of Limestone. Accelerated Weathering of Limestone is a viable option for carbon dioxide reduction for large stationary emission sources before the feasibility of carbon capture and geological storage is proven. For intermediate size emission sources, Accelerated Weathering of Limestone is a promising alternative for carbon capture and geological storage technology. The purpose of this study is to assist the Environmental Protection Agency to evaluate the current developing situation of Mineral Sequestration and Accelerated Weathering of Limestone in international context, to promote international and domestic collaboration by hosting symposiums and workshops, and to conduct a preliminary study for Accelerated Weathering of Limestone with regard to technical feasibility, cost effective, environmental impact issues. A strategic roadmap will be proposed to the Environmental Protection Agency for policy making and planning.
