Proficiency Testing Program for Stack Particulate Measurements

The measurement accuracy will have a great impact on the emission calculation. The purpose of this study is to establish the stack for evaluating the ability of the inspection institutions and improve the sampling and analysis accuracy. The stack takes the dimension of old stack as a reference. The main parts of the new stack includes the sampling platform, framework, stack body, heater, fan, particle generator, and electricity facilities. The response time, stability, and operation range of temperature, air velocity and particle concentration were tested. Eight inspection institutions will examine the stack after the stack was finished. The new stack had been constructed, and the sampling facilities had met the criteria. The tests of fan, heater and particle generator had completed. These devices had low response time and high stability. The air velocity of the stack ranged from 3 to 18.88 m/s, and the response time below 30 seconds. The temperature ranged from room temperature to 80 ℃ and the response tome below 5 minutes. The cement was choose as the challenge particle in this study and the particle size ranged from 0.5 to 15 μm. The proportion of particle size below 2.5 μm was 47% and above 2.5 μm was 53%. The particle mass concentration ranged from 0.8 to 37.6 g/min. The cement should be replenished when the mass was below 200 g. The stack can generate low mass concentration (<50 mg/Nm3). There are 19, 11 and 2 air velocity test results within one, two and three standard deviations respectively. For mass concentration test, there 8, 4, 2 results within one, two and three standard deviations respectively. Howerer, two mass concentration test results are out of three standard deviations. The generation of low mass concentrationstack(<50 mg/Nm3) in this stack is feasibility.
