Pilot multi-functional and intelligent rain gardens project in 2021-2022
Absrtact |
As the temperature continues to rise and the frequency of typhoons and heavy rains increases, effective adaptiontation measures are required to reduce the impact damage under the threat of climate change. This project aims to promote the concept of climate change adaptation, plan adaptation practices close to public at a local scale, and improve public perception to build environmental education and resilience awareness. This project's site selection and design are based on the Rain Garden SOP. A total of 14 intelligent rain gardens polit sites were built in Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Taichung, Chiayi, Tainan and Kaohsiung cities. Each site was equipped with IoT real-time monitoring sensors. The system uses on-site monitoring equipment and a back-end receiving platform to provide the actual performance data of the multi-functional smart rain garden. The field data was used for assessing the performance of the multi-functional smart rain garden. The average temperature difference between the rain garden and the general pavement in summer can reach to 6.6 0C, and the temperature change in rain gardens is more stable than that of the other general pavement. The rain gardens had a significant on the cooling effect, and the water retention rate of the sites reached to 97.2% during the monitoring period. If the rainfall meets the design value of the site, the rainwater can be completely stored in the rain gardens. At the same time, this plan handled many promotion and eduational meetings and developed the design manual to local governments to assist the subsequent development of rain gardens.
