Environmental Protection Bureau, Chiayi City (CYCEPB) has set up the 24 hours Environmental Public Nuisance Center with direct line 05-2251775 (0800-066-666 for EPA) to deal with various environmental nuisance cases. The contents of appointment include reception and log in of complaint cases, immediate inspections, database set up based on inspection results, and other administrative matters. Among 4,753 complaint cases accepted by the Environmental Public Nuisance Center, 3,915 cases (82.37%), 488cases (10.84%), and 154 cases (3.24%) were reported by phone calls, cases in charge assignment and internet petition system respectively. Phone call is still the main petition source. It is suggested to provide multiple reporting approaches through electronic billboards or radio broadcasting in the furture. According to the classification of pollution sources, 2,440 Environmental Sanitation cases accounting for 51.34% of total cases were handled from January to December in 2022, followed by Noise (865 cases, 18.19%), Waste (662 cases, 13.92%), odor nuisance (655 cases, 13.78%), and the remaining cases (less than 5% for each source), indicating environmental sanitation, noise and waste nuisance cases were the main pollution sources in Chiayi County. Compared to last few years, the cases of Environmental Sanitation, Waste and Noise Pollutants were found increasing graudally. The more cases of illegal dumping this year has inevitably increased the analysis costs due to the requirement to determine if the wastes were harzardous or not. Based on the classification of petition targets, public places were found to be the highest percentage (39.6%) with 1,883 cases, followed by households (1,667 cases, 35.07%), commerce (565 cases, 11.89%), and others (less than 15%). The statistic results showed that the reports of Environmental pollutions were not limited to profit-seeking enterprises but various places, indicating people started to focus on the environment nearby and were able to report the pollution cases to Environmental Public Nuisance Center.
