In response to the degradation of human living environments and the frequent occurrence of extreme disasters caused by global climate change, the United Nations has declared and taken actions towards "Net Zero Emissions by 2050." Taiwan has also followed the footsteps, proposing policies and actions towards the goal of achieving net-zero emissions. The concept of "Net Zero Green Living" is a crucial strategy to lead the public creating a green lifestyle and achieving the net-zero emissions target. This program focuses on establishing net-zero green life competency indicators and then emphasis the learning on the key stage K5-K9. Through international exchanges, teachers’ training, and public promotion, it aims to bring about behavior changes towards net-zero green life. The international exchange targets the United States and Germany, it involves visiting relevant institutions and schools in New Jersey, to understand how to promote net-zero education in formal education fields. Moreover, an international conference was held with a German expert visiting Taiwan to share and provide insights into international strategies and actions for promoting net-zero green life, which provides the future references. Through international exchanges, literature analysis, and expert consultations, the program aims to establish competency indicators for net-zero green life for K5-K9, under the current curriculum and the efforts of in-service teachers, develop 12 teaching materials for K5-K9 grades covering net-zero green life in areas such as food, clothing, housing, transportation, entertainment, and shopping as well. To promote the teaching materials, five teachers’ training activities were held and over 300 elementary and junior high school teachers participated. Based on the practical teaching and feedback from teachers’ training activities, the content of net-zero green life education was revised. In order to achieve widespread awareness among the public, the program produced seven podcast channels in digital media, delivering net-zero knowledge and experiences, with over 150,000 views. The program collaborated with Fo Guang Shan Book Fair, designing some games-based learning adventures, deepening their understanding of green living. More than 2,500 junior high and elementary school students enjoyed the games. The program also collaborated with the Shalun Green Energy Technology Demonstration Site, establishing a demonstration base for net-zero green life from the perspective of food, aiming to promote the experience of net-zero green life in real-life scenarios. In summary, it aims to enhance the knowledge and practice of net-zero green living among school-age individuals, raise awareness of net-zero knowledge among the general public, and encourage behavioral changes to implement a net-zero lifestyle by education and promotion.
