Since April 2010, the project was carried out to promote disposable products source minimization efforts, in line with the “Zero Waste” policy established by the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA). The project had collaboration with two environmental protection organizations, focusing on disposable products reduction in total 55 activities, involved disposable tableware, direct mail and the plastic wrappers etc… Besides, the lifecycle inventories of disposal/reusable chostick and cup have been established. The EPA discussed with over 10 thousand softdrink stores on providing discount for coustomers with their own cups, and proposed the ” implementation of incentive payment on recycling of take-out disposable cup” draft. We followed up the achievement of the reduction and a 8.93 million reduction on direct mail from department stores compare to the year 2009 was estimated.
Regard as plastic tarys and boxes minimization, amount of reduction achieved 905 tons with 33% overall reduction rate, in which includes 27.5% reduction rate by 77% stores, and over 40% stores achieved 30% reduction rate during July 2008 to Dec. 2009. After evaluation, the EPA set reduction rate as 30% for July 2010 to Dec. 2010. In terms of policy, the project completed an environmental impact report on PVC and EPS and proposed relative management schemes, after helding a meeting with relevant organizations on “restriction material of cars contained plastic with chloride” and “restrictions of PVC and PVDC films for food packing.” In addition, this project assisted EPA in preannounced “Restrictions on the Manufacture, Import, and Sale of Polyvinyl Chloride and Polyvinylidene Chloride Films for Food Packing” draft, in which the reduction of 2,272 tons PVC and 895 tons PVDC with 1,555 tons chloride could be expected.
