With a view to implementing the Environmental Education Act enacted by the EPA, the Taoyuan County Government set up the project of Taoyuan County environmental education action and propaganda plan in 2011, expecting to assist the related units within the county to conduct environmental education work through the relevant measures such as environmental education action plans, promotion and advocacy plans. The Taoyuan County will become the beautiful Land of Peach Blossoms for sustainable education and lifelong learning and will be a model for other cities and counties.
The achievements of the project are as the following:
1) Regarding the action aspects of the environmental education project, the project have set Taoyuan County Environmental Education Fund grant program and application guidelines, as well as the draft of the Taoyuan County Environmental Education Action plan in 2012, and organized five sessions of environmental education fund management meetings and two sessions of environmental education review meetings.
2)In terms of environmental education workshops and advocacy, the project has handled eight environmental education advocacy and counseling to guide city halls into the EEMS system, and held two environment workshops to familiarize participants with the relevant provisions of the Environmental Education Act, to operate the declaration system, and to strengthen the concept of environmental protection.
3)In respect of counseling the related certifications of environmental education, the project has completed the certification application processes of four environmental education institutions, including the National Central University and Vanung University have been certified, and finished the certification application processes of counseling 11 good environmental education facilities, including Dongyan Mountain Nature Education Centre have been certified.
4)With regard to the education and promotion of green procurement, this project has completed the checks of green stores for 200 times and six sessions of explanatory meetings, familiarizing participants with the operation of green living information network systems, green procurement reporting and performance assessment.
5)To implement environmental education activities of county EPA staff, this project has completed three environmental education activities to enhance their staff about the current situation and recognize the importance of environment.
On February 22, 2012, the Taoyuan County Schools Environmental Education learning and creative teaching demonstration activity has been conducted. And a total of 92 teachers at all school levels within the county and environmental education promotion staff have participated in the demonstration activity.
After completing the processing of the Taoyuan County Environmental Education volunteer recruitment and training, the recognition and award ceremony was held on November 20, 2011, and completed the recruitment of 18 environmental education volunteers into environmental education work.
Completing the processing of the Taoyuan County environmental education and creative lesson plans for selection activities, the project have selected 9 works of the social groups and 14 works of the campus groups, and on February 8, 2012 the award ceremony was completed. The award-winning list and lesson works were noticed on the EPA website for the reference of environment education promotion personnel.
By assisting to conduct the Enterprise Environmental Protection Award activity, the national winners of the Enterprise Environmental Protection Award are a total of 15 enterprises in 2011, including two award winners from the Taoyuan County. Through the promotion of the Enterprise Environmental Protection Award, it has encouraged other businesses to become a winner for being a model, to fulfill their corporate social responsibility, and to jointly promote the environment protection work.
