The objective of this project is to assist local governments in improving the management efficiency and work performance of the food waste and discarded furniture recycling and reuse plants; as well as enhancing the professional skills of field operators, increasing the amount of recycling, improving the contents of the EPA Food Waste and Discarded Furniture Recycling and Reuse Website, and collecting overseas information related to organic waste and biomass reuse issues. The work contents of this project include:
(1) Organize national food waste and discarded furniture (wood materials) recycling and reuse status review meeting;
(2) Review operating status of twenty (20) food waste and discarded furniture recycling and reuse plants’ operating conditions and propose recommendations for improvement;
(3) Conduct testing of finished compost products from twenty-five (25) composting plants, perform data analysis of operational performance, find out sources of problems, and propose suggestions for improvement;
(4) Develop treatment and end-use channels for liquid food waste;
(5) Update and maintain EPA’s Food Waste and Discarded Furniture Recycling and Reuse System and Webpages.
