In recent years, many countries have implemented product carbon labeling system, analysis of the product's carbon footprint, and presentation with carbon labeling to encourage people for low-carbon consumption. Through the implementation of a carbon labeling system, it not only enables transparent source of carbon emissions each stage of the product but also encourages consumers to use the product appropriately, so that it achieves the greatest benefits by the reduction of carbon emissions.
Environment Protection Administration of Executive Yuan and the Kinmen County government are actively in the process of working together to promote "Project of building Kinmen low carbon Island", therefore, Kinmen County Environmental Protection Bureau promotes some traditional industries with special characteristics to participate in " promotion project for carbon labeling ",and helps two manufacturers to get products’ carbon label. Through execution of product’s carbon label, they hope to assist manufacturers to establish product carbon footprint management mechanism, control the information of carbon emissions, obtain carbon label to enhance industrial competitiveness, and specifically establish the exposing information of green products marketing to express the practical action of building low-carbon island.
With the implementation of carbon labeling counseling project, Yi Lai Shuen foodstuff and Kinmen County Livestock Research Institute the emissions of greenhouse gas produced in each stage of the product life cycle in detail , and find out the possibility for reduction in each stage or supply chain, such as the use of the environment-friendly raw materials, reduction and recycling of product packaging, improvement of transportation efficiency, in the meantime, require suppliers to make efforts together to reduce the carbon footprint of products, in addition to reducing emissions of greenhouse gas and the formation of green supply chains, and also reducing costs. Carbon footprint presented by labeling helps consumers to understand the implications of the carbon footprint of the product, and cooperate to reduce the emissions of carbon in using and disposing stages. The project expects to create a milestone of green products in Kinmen County , and establish a image for green brands through Yi Lai Shuen foodstuff’s four products of carbon labeling (plain noodles, vegetables, noodles, yam noodles, sorghum noodles) and Kinmen County Livestock Research Institute’s product carbon labeling (1000c.c Grade A milk).
