Judging from the progress in the UNFCCC negotiation process as well as domestic and international economic policies, it is clear that following the recovery of the global economy, many countries are accelerating their implementation of the Green New Deal in developing clean energy technologies and creating green business opportunities. To this end, this project will continue to follow the Durban Platform negotiations and develop the required coping strategies. These strategies will start from constructing the legal basis of the response measures which are then supplemented by multi-faceted strategies including implementation of technology network linkage, proper use of the market mechanism, enhancement of climate education dissemination, and promotion of international cooperation. These strategies will also be combined with the efforts to promote cooperation among various ministries and industrial sectors/technologies. Through implementing the comprehensive assessment and concentrating social consensus, it is expected to reach a reasonable strategy in multi fields for promoting long-term social activities in response to climate change.
The main objectives of this project include:
1.Analyze the developing trends and legal basis of the new global climate negotiations in UNFCCC, Kyoto Protocol, and Durban platform in order to propose Taiwan’s coping strategies
2.Assist the Taiwan EPA to participate in the UNFCCC meetings and establish communication channels for international liaison and co-operation;
3.Establish the communication network with significant non-governmental organizations to further enhance space and condition for meaningful participating in the UNFCCC activities;
4.Prepare and host a Taiwan- EU climate change conference, and seek for expanding partnership for future new international initiative;
5.Strengthen international awareness of Taiwan’s efforts in the UNFCCC activities, disseminate the UNFCCC information, and build capacity for coping with climate change.
