Rapid development of industry and economy results in a massive growth of factories, industrial zones and science industrial parks. This, however, largely promotes the increasing rates of vehicles, gas stations and restaurants, and brings the subsequent severe environmental impacts. Also, growing public’s concerns are also driven by other environmental issues including air folk activities, fireworks display and open burning of agricultural waste.
This project will work on high-potential odor sources, including swine facilities, gas stations, restaurants, folk activities, and open burning. For the part of swine facilities, we have completed literature review of pollution control and odorless technologies. Moreover, we demonstrated odor control techniques on-site to a large animal house equipped with mechanical ventilation system. We then proposed odor control guidelines and promoted the directions and complementary measures for low-carbon sustainable development swine facilities.
For the part of leak reduction from gas stations, we collected controlling achievements over the passing years from the EPA and EPBs, and surveyed regulatory compliance at 15 gas stations. In addition, we assisted in organizing seminars of oil vapor recovery system and its detection technology in 4 counties. Furthermore, petroleum gas leak from gas stations during fueling operation with various gas/oil ratios was investigated and monitored by infrared thermal imaging.
For the part of restaurants odor, the experts were invited for on-site inspection at 5 of these restaurants, to provide consulting advice toward control technologies. We measured pollutants, including before-and-after improvement, to confirm the effectiveness of pollution control. After gathering suggestions from experts and literatures, we completed improvement guidelines for local pollution control of restaurants odor.
To arouse public awareness of air pollution protection regarding folk activities, we have completed a promotional video about green alternative way for sacrifice ceremony. This video can be shown at public or education occasions to instruct people the consequences of air pollutants arising from folk activities. In addition, we reviewed foreign countries’ regulations and policies for fireworks display, to provide a reference material upon future policy making. Furthermore, inspection of current agricultural wastes treatments and feasibility study on using wood gas stove of burning paper money and agricultural wastes was accomplished.
