Climate change now is one of most important issues around world. Every country has been studying climate change for a long time though; most efforts are done for mitigation. In recent years, each country has started to emphasize adaptation. The proportion of discussion in COP (Conference of the Parties) has changed as well. Everyone is paying more attention to adaptation.
As continuation of the last year results of the work, this project collects and updates latest information of adaptation from UK, US, Germany, Japan and the Netherland. The project also studies IPCC AR5 and analyzes key issues and progress of climate change adaptation of other countries, aims to drawn the roadmap of climate adaptation in Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
In this year, the project also continue to finish “Climate Change Adaptation Guidebook”, collect results of international education on climate change adaptation, and set assessment index to review the achievement. 4 workshops of climate change adaptation education were held in 4 regions to provide basic knowledge of climate change to local government and stakeholders. The feedbacks were included in the “Climate Change Adaptation Guidebook”. The electronic version of the guidebook was accessible on the website.
Climate change is a global issue. As one of it, Taiwan had the responsibility to care the developing countries and offer the help they needed. For this reason, “2014 Pan Pacific Partnership on Climate Change Adaptation” invited experts of US EPA and representatives from Southeast Asia and Pacific island countries to discuss the impact of climate change and our responses. Based on experiences of Taiwan as an island country combined with cooperation of Taiwan and the US, the project helped to improve communication of Pan Pacific regions on climate issues.
