UN established every year on 5 June as “World Environmental Day” in 1972. It has already passed 44 years and the World Environmental Day has been observed, advocated by more than 100 countries in the world to carry out the awareness of our environment so as to promote the important of the protection of our environment. The meaning the Day asks the global citizens to get together to participate in the activity and take active actions to protect the Earth. In 2016, UN set up the theme of the World Environmental Day as “The Fight Against The Illegal Trade In Wildlife.” In Taiwan, the cases of the illegal trade of wild animals are relatively few; however, the ecological food chain are gradually destroyed and changed because of human being’s demand of the mother Nature. Ecological environment has gradually become our main concern. Therefore, the Environmental Protection Administration, Executive Yuan and Taoyuan City Government on 5 June held “The Theme Activity of the World Environmental Day in 2016—Protection of the Environmental Ecological Conditions and Wild Animals and Plants” in Shihmen Reservoir, qualified as a site for environmental education. Besides, the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan and Water Resources Agency, Ministry of Economic Affairs were invited to hold the activity to encourage Taiwan citizens to respond to the World Environmental Day so as to elevate and hand on our citizens’ awareness of the importance of the environmental protection. By doing so, the activity hoped to awake our citizens’ awareness to protect wild animals and plants and create a friendly and harmonious symbiotic environment between humans being and our mother nature. Through the theme of this activity, citizens are hoped to care about our ecological environment and protect wild animals and plants and are willing to be educated about the issues about the environment in the environmental educational sites qualified by the Environmental Protection Administration. In this way, the citizens are able to learn the importance of educational education and protection of ecology in their leisure time and Taiwan can be established into a peaceful, happy, and sustainable low-carbon homeland.
