This program ran for a total of four months, from July 29 to November 30, 2016. The main work items included assisting agencies in counseling 5 administrative villages to apply for Seeds of Hope Recycling Stations, the provision of electronic scales and all required recycling equipment, the provision of promotional materials for recyclables exchange activities, the production of posters for Seeds of Hope Recycling Station activities, the employment of part-time workers, and the organization of recycling station activities such as recycling demonstrations and other activities. A summary description of the results of the work up to November 30 is as follows.
This program submitted the plans for the Seeds of Hope Recycling Station on August 3, 2016. On August 11, 2016, in Letter Wei-Zih No. 10538284700, the Kaohsiung City Environmental Protection Agency Central Bureau of Health approved the plan, and assisted the establishment of Seeds of Hope recycling stations in Wensian Village, Linyuan District; Chengsing Village, Cianjhen District; Lanciao Village, Yancheng District; Sinshang Village, Zuoying District; and Baoshe Village, Dashe District. Beginning August 13, 2016 (Sat.), public promotions for recycling exchange promotional activities were conducted at the Seeds of Hope recycling stations in all five locations. After a recycling exchange was conducted at the Seeds of Hope recycling station in Lanciao Village, Yancheng District on August 17, 2016, problems emerged with the venue, so follow-up exchanges were shifted to Nanjhou Village, Cishan District. These five new Seeds of Hope recycling stations have already conducted 76 recycling exchanges, and a total of 1,265 people participated in the exchanges, resulting in the recovery of 36,927.2 kilograms of recyclables. Glass containers accounted for the greatest portion (by weight) of materials recycled at 60.5%, followed by paper at 17.7%.
In order to allow Seeds of Hope recycling stations to compile statistics on their recycling amount, this program provided the stations with five electronic scales, all with a one year warranty. Additionally, customizedstreet signs, bulletin boards, and required recycling equipment were installed in obvious locations in accordance with the environment and needs of each station to avoid dirtying the environment when conducting recycling exchanges. In order to organize recycling exchanges, a total of 15,880 promotional items for exchange, including toilet paper, dishwashing liquid, electric mosquito repellent, soy sauce, and hand soap were procured, of which 9,660 have already been exchanged. To promote these activities, 1,000 posters, 1,000 promotional cards, 5 red promotional banners and 5 sets of cardboard standees were made and given to the five Seeds of Hope recycling stations for them to distribute or set up in locations where these activities are held. Personnel at all five stations were also counseled on how to employ part-time workers to assist in organizing recycling exchanges, sorting recyclables and compiling statistics, and arranging for sanitation trucks to transport the recyclables away. A recycling demonstration was held on October 6 in coordination with New Taipei City, and 23 people participated. The content and results of the various operations in the current stage of the program are presented in each of the subsections of this report.
