Under the increasing needs of products’ carbon footprint calculation, the basic ability to calculate and disclose carbon footprint has become the important communication tools for government and industry to achieve carbon reduction targets, to declare its corporate social responsibility and to market green product to the public.
The purpose of this project is to construct and enhance the basic ability to disclose and calculate the product carbon footprint in our domestic industry by providing the localizable and high applicable coefficients of carbon footprint.
Based on the schedule, this project has completed the requirements of check point for the task. There are three major achievements as follow:
(1) The total 49 items for carbon footprint coefficients have been renewed
and constructed by using the data from Taiwan EPA’s EMS system, the manufacturer review, the government statistical information and the U.S. & Australia database. We expect that these coefficients after confirming and building into the database can quite reduce time and expense in those industries which has the need for calculating carbon footprint.
(2) The total 146 items for carbon footprint coefficients have been announced and selected into our carbon footprint database on 2016/10/4. In means that the database which has accumulated to 467 coefficients could extensively support the needs for almost 35 industries such as the plastics, textiles, metal products, construction, electronics & semiconductor , and paper-making industry ,etc.
(3) The optimization of total 16 functions including the upper/lower- bound index of total energy consumption and carbon footprint, the reference menu of inventory for the raw material, the adjustment of excel imported form for inventory, my project management module, and manager’s statistical function and the report form for output selection on the platform has been finished. It could enhance the convenience and applicability hugely for the users.
With the purpose of supporting the needs for the service platform to calculate the product of carbon footprint, we suggest that the government agencies could invest the funds continuously to maintain the construction and the update on the domestic carbon footprint coefficients.
