In recent years, the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), Executive Yuan, has continuously updated and prepared drinking water safety education campaign information for the purpose of conveying accurate knowledge and concept of drinking water safety. Results of the plan’s implementation in 2016 are as follows:
1.Production of drinking water safety video clips, e-book and brochure.
Completed the production of three micro-movies, including “Sound of Water-Seeing it”, “Sound of Water-Caring” and “Sound of Water-Pureness”, which aim to convey the concept of drinking water safety through the influence of the far-reaching Internet. A picture book “Learning about Water with Xiaoyu”, suitable for the lower graders, was also made with the aim of establishing the right concept of drinking water safety in the young. Furthermore, the brochure “Drinking Water FAQs” addressing frequently asked questions about drinking water quality was made and the brochure “Post-disaster Drinking Water Safety Information” was reviewed and updated in keeping with the times and the public’s requirements.
2. Activity of drinking water safety.
On December 9, 2016, the press conference “Tips for Cleaning Reservoir (Water Tower) and Electric Water Dispenser” was held, calling for the public to clean their reservoirs (water towers) and electric water dispensers regularly to ensure the quality of drinking water.
3.Researching drinking water safety campaign strategies and tactics in advanced countries, and revision of drinking water global website.
Drinking water safety campaign strategies and tactics used in the United States, Japan and United Kingdom were collated and analyzed as reference for Taiwan, and short-term, mid-term and long-term recommendations for Taiwan were proposed based on the “campaign”, “education” and “information provision” aspects. Video clips, e-book and brochures were added under “Other Drinking Water Campaign Information” of the “EPA Drinking Water Global Website” in the effort to update the website’s information.
4.Three expert meetings were held.
Three expert meetings, bringing together environmental engineering, public health, environmental education and mass communication experts and academicians, and water supply business representatives, were held on July 13, August 22 and November 25 respectively in 2016, to provide suggestions for improving the initial drafts of the campaign materials.
