This project includes mainly three major items, namely the maintenance and management of air quality purification areas, the promotion of environmental greening, and the survey on Exposed area.
Among the 74 air quality purification areas, totaling 58.4 hectares, 60 were subsidized by the Environmental Protection Administration and 14 by the Environmental Protection Bureau. In addition, trees were planted along the roads for 18.9 kilometers.
In fiscal year 2017 (July 2017 to June 2018), 249 inspections were conducted, exceeding the original target of 230. All the checks and assessments were documented and photographed.
A seminary on how to maintain and manage and apply for the air purification area was hosted, in which 16 units participated. After the seminar, visits to 3 excellent air quality purification areas in Chiayi County and Tainan County were made. In the year-end performance assessments, 8 air purification bases were awarded with medals.
A seminary to analyze the plant diseases and insect pests commonly seen in the air quality purification areas was held in a hope to improve the basic capability of our maintenance personnel to identify and treat plant diseases. Surveys on carbon sequestration were carried out at 20 places, accounting for 4,070 strains and capturing 606.8 tons of CO2.
30 interviews were conducted to 14 companies and 16 communities for their willingness to adopt the air quality purification areas. Among them, 15 units expressed their willingness. As of June 16, 2018, 2 more communities were added to the adoption list. On December 7, 2006, the Environmental Protection Administration held an award ceremony for the excellent adoption units of air quality purification areas. The awards were granted to the Lunxi Community in Erlun Township and the Xitun Community in Huwei Township. Moreover, health surveys were conducted at 6 air quality purification bases, of which 3 were improved of their air quality.
To promote the eco-greening communities, we issued 3 press releases (reports) and hosted 5 briefing sessions to promote the community-greening and beautification construction projects, including 2 holiday sessions (each in the Lundong Community in Erlun Township and the Wunan Community in Kouhu Township). In those sessions, 600 relevant propaganda materials were given out. We also carried out for three times the follow-up operation and maintenance of the Community Garden Program at the Erlun Community.
We also took inventory of 395 ordinary Exposed area, amounting to about 33.6 hectares; inspected 100 Exposed area within a radius of 5 kilometers around the station, amounting to about 42.2 hectares of Exposed area; and completed improvement projects on 13 Exposed area, among which 10 were covered with straw mats, 2 with graded gravel, and 1 with xanthan gum, amounting to an overall improvement area of 20,723 square meters.
