This project was carried out from June 15th to December 31st, 2017. The main task involved establishing a think tank composed of 8 experts in the circular economy. The purpose of the think tank is to come up with a road map for planning and executing the concept of a circular economy and to create a list of best practices in this field. The project also involved holding a forum with attendees including experts from government, industry, academic organizations and research institutes. A consensus was reached about future specific measures to promote the circular economy. Forum attendees also reviewed and modified plans that were laid earlier for Sustainable Materials Management.
According to this project’s "Critical Material Selection Principles,” we selected 10 critical materials for analysis and a specialized report. The report will be integrated into the Sustainable Materials Management database.
In order to make our Sustainable Materials Management plans move towards the creation of a circular economy, participants in the project will also take study tours of Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark, which are working to build circular economies. In addition, this project will take part in an OECD meeting on December 4-6. Furthermore, in a follow-up to the study tour, participants will organize a “Circular Economy Global Forum” and “Circular Economy Working Meeting” to enhance international cooperation.
This year we collected and integrated our key achievements in this project over the past five years and compiled them in a promotional brochure. Another handbook we have prepared and other materials will also enable the public to understand the major results of this project and start to support our policies in the future. We have also surveyed industries and invited key corporations to share their experiences. The latter activity successfully created opportunities for discussion, interaction and potential partnerships between companies, creating more opportunities to develop a circular economy.
