This year's target of the project is to improve the interface and operational efficiency of the “Marine Pollution Prevention and Management System”, enhance the response capacity of marine pollution incidents, and at the same time, strengthen the operational functions of geographical information of “Marine Pollution Prevention and Management System”, integrate contingent materials allocation and resources distribution, complete marine pollution prevention and management mechanism, provide systematic support services for marine pollution contingency, and develop manpower for handling marine pollution and marine chemicals.
This year, according to feedback from users and on-site staff after previous contingencies, this project re-examined the functions of various systems and integrated some of the functions. In accordance with the statistical analysis of water quality monitoring data in the sea area, users and relevant management personnel can master the trends of water changes through the statistical analysis function developed in this project. In the meantime, to speed up the management of its unit materials by users, this project had strengthened its material management functions this year and established a quick location screening function column in the material management functions. This would also shorten the time it takes to manage contingent materials through the sorting function.
Meanwhile, to effectively promote the "plastic-free ocean" policy conducted by Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), the project assisted the EPA in handling the 2017 World Marine Day in 19 counties and cities nationwide on July 22, 2017. A total of 20,644.5 kilograms of seabed (floating) trash was cleared out throughout the country. In addition to the fruitful results of the ocean cleanup, a total of 817 environmental protection ships and 507 diving volunteers enrolled throughout the country with the vigorous publicity of the project and the Department of Environmental Protection (Marine Bureau) of all counties. More than 10,000 people gathered in response to this ocean cleanup activity.
In addition, to deepen international exchanges and cooperation, this year's program helped EPA to invite experts from the Center of Documentation Research and Experimentation on Accidental Water Pollution (CEDRE) to make a speech in Taiwan from September 25 to September 28, 2017. During the trip to Taiwan, apart from the participation of international seminars and cultural visits, a total of six presenters from various agencies and CEDRE experts were invited to participate in the "Experience Sharing Conference on Marine Pollution Prevention and Control".
The project also completed a 14-day course entitled "Development of Human Resources for Sea-based Oil and Marine Chemical Pollution Response" at the CEDRE Center in France from June 12 to June 25, 2017.
