Display industrial is growing fast than 10 years ago. Nowadays, display panels are become larger and ultra-high resolution. In general, life cycle of liquid crystal display (LCD) is about 7 years, people will change their old LCD for a newly fashion LCD in these years. Therefore, there is a problem - waste LCD panels, and in the future the problem will become serious.
Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) had developed waste LCD panel recycle technology. Those are on-line waste liquid crystal purify and panel glass modify become a heavy metal ions adsorbent. Compose of recycled liquid crystals that come from LCD panel factory on-line defective product is specific, it can be reuse in on-line process. But recycled liquid crystals from commercial display panels are very complex and bad electric-optical property, it can’t use in modern process.
In this project, we have use recycled liquid crystal in smart windows which use polymer dispersion liquid crystals (PDLC) as its material, we can achieve it by improve the property of recycle liquid crystals. We will use high dielectric constant and high birefringence liquid crystals molecule to modify recycled liquid crystal formula to fit PDLC specification. It can 100% reduce the yields of waste liquid crystal ideally and make recycled liquid crystals become a high valuable material.
