In response to the more serious impact of climate change day by day, Taiwan’s national climate change adaptations began at 2009. Since then, every authority started to review their related work. The Executive Yuan approved the ‘‘Adaptation strategy to climate change in Taiwan’’ in 2012 and the ‘‘National climate adaptation action plans (2013-2017)’’ in 2014. Since 2012, however, with the announcement of the ‘‘IPCC fifth assessment report (AR5)’’, the Paris Agreement, the ‘‘Greenhouse gas reduction and management act (2015)’’ and the ‘‘National climate change action guidelines’’, it becomes a key issue of entering the subsequent stages of national adaptation tasks that whether related adaptation work is enough for facing future climate change. After collecting and evaluating the progress and development of national climate change adaptation actions, as well as the climate change adaptation related Acts/Laws of England, Japan , Ireland and Mexico, the project analyzes its adaptation evaluation pathways, objective settings, the content itself and the mechanism to review and adjust. Further, the project makes comparisons between the above countries and Taiwan’s climate change adaptation laws. Accordingly, the project draws up Taiwan’s national pathway and the recommendation of amending the ‘‘Greenhouse gas reduction and management act (2015)’’, and also assists the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) to compile the ‘‘National climate adaptation action plan (2018-2022)’’, as the basis of developing our national adaptation tasks.
Communicating with the public plays an important role to make sure the national adaptation tasks goes well. Therefore, the project not only completes compiling the ‘‘National climate adaptation action plan (2018-2022)’’ and planning the way of management, but also makes the climate action animation for the public, articles about climate change adaptation and Taiwan Adaptation Platform (TAP) from shallow to deep, to provide people correct climate change adaptation information. Meanwhile, the project also registers ‘‘European climate change adaptation conference (ECCA) 2019’’ to present our efforts of national adaptation tasks and also to gain publicity internationally.
