The main task of this project is to organize on-site cleanliness assessments to every Local Government Areas (LGAs) without prior notices. The assessment team consists of specialists tasked by The Environmental Protection Administration (EPA). The team has done assessments in 22 counties, 44 districts, and 44 villages, providing unbiased results and suggestions for cleanliness improvement. Key assessment items include streets and canals cleanliness, public toilet cleanliness, pet faeces control, household yard cleanliness, unattended area/constructions management, illegal advertisements control, and the proper operation of EcoLife website. An awarding ceremony was held to recognize excellences according to the assessments, encouraging local governments to continue efforts in environmental cleanliness.
The project provides Taiwan EPA with assistance on promoting activities and conferences related to environment cleaning and environment education. On World Cleanup Day (Sep. 21st, 2019), a cigarette butt cleaning activity was held in Keelung City. On Jan. 7th of 2020, end of the year press conference was held. On Aug. 17th of 2020, an on-foot “Mountain Cleaning Workshop” was held to explore the key problems of the environment and discuss the solutions. From August, 2019 to July, 2020, 10 environmental hygiene meeting was held to discuss topics including reducing cigarette butts to increase environment quality, readjusting environment cleaning and maintenance assessment project of local governments, enhancing ‘toilet-using culture’ and increasing quality and quantity of night market public restrooms.
The project produced 2 marketing materials relating to promoting not to discard cigarette butts randomly (which includes one for the stores and one for the public), 2 environmental hygiene related reports on print media (which includes topic of dengue fever and cigarette butts), and also collect and organise environment cleaning-related files that have regional characteristics. These documents are shown in the forms of videos, photos, outstanding performance records and etc.
