The lack of systematic learning pathways for the risk identification and safe use of chemical substances around our life, most people in Taiwan often panicked and doubted while chemical hazards news were exposed.
To improve the “Community Right-to-Know” about chemical substances and the citizens’ chemical literacy, we set short-term and medium-term goals and working plans to assist Toxic and Chemical Substances Bureau in establishing Taiwan’s risk communication and education mode for the safe use of chemical substances. We executed the plan according to TCSB’s “National Policy Outline in Chemical Substance Management” (國家化學物質管理政策綱領)—“knowledge established”(知識建立) and its major policy--“Raise all stakeholders' awareness of hazardous chemical substances”
Based on Taiwan’s risk communication strategy, we set critical communicating information to different segments, such as designing courses of common chemical substances in daily life, gamifying teaching materials and providing translations of chemistry jargon and video material to the press and the online social media to expand reaching range, etc.
