The Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) protects river water quality and carries out water pollution control in Taiwan, thus Water Quality Protection Web was installed by the Department of Water Quality Protection of EPA in 2016 to act as the window for related results’ information integration and publication. This project brings an entire new web feature to continue on providing intuitive, visualized and integrated information for other departments and the public. In line with promoting the forward-looking infrastructure plan, data of major operation and policy highlights were collected and presented on the web. Information on the On-site treatment Web was also updated, as well as the enhancement of Patrol-team Management Web to ensure the convenience of related units. This project also gives publicity to the achievement of Water Quality Protection through activities and Facebook to enhance public concept and involvement on water quality protection.
On the other hand, to address the issue of waste in water hindering the water flow and contaminates the water quality, the EPA has started to investigate methods for waste removal in waters around Taiwan since 2018, and clarified the responsibilities of relative authorities. Main tasks include strengthening and maintaining the EPA’s “Inland Water Waste Removal Management System” and the “Cherish the Water Web", and tracing results reported by various agencies. Moreover, the EPA has hosted system operation seminars to enhance the efficiency of the system. The EPA has also looked into the delegation of responsibilities of different inland water agencies and planned waste investigation and management methods, and hosted interviews, to provided further suggestions. Aerial photography has conducted before and after special weather events, documented the removal operations, collected important river baseline information, and organized literature from home and abroad. Moreover, announcement of 2020 waste removal operation evaluation, compilation of data from 2021, and an evaluation for 2022 were completed. Inter-agency meeting and result sharing seminar were also hosted to discuss and shared experiences on mechanisms of river waste management and collaboration, which are conducive to improving Taiwan’s inland water management.
