There are several water veins flowing through Taipei City, mainly the Danshuei River system, with a drainage area of 2,726 square kilometers,including major tributaries such as Dahan River, Xindian River and Keelung River. Since the EPA declared 1991 as the "River Pollution Remediation Year", attention has been paid to the cleanliness of the riverbank environment. With the efforts of the Environmental Protection Agency, the Taipei City Government and local residents, the Taipei City Water Environment Patrol, composed of volunteers, was born. Team members have water quality monitoring capabilities, and can immediately report water pollution in through a patrol notification mechanism, which strengthens the network monitoring of river remediation.
The Taipei City Water Environment Patrol Team had 23 teams, with a total of 616 patrol members, and the total length of the patrol was 119.33 kilometers. In order to maintain the existing number of teams, as well as to understand the operation of the water patrol team, 23 teams have been
inspected on the spot; in addition, a meeting was organized for the captain and cadre to explain the patrol team evaluation and reward mechanism,annual activity focus/review, and introduce new Joining the team and commending the Taipei City Excellent Water Environment Patrol Team for the year. Two captain and cadre meetings have been completed; in order to make the patrol team members improve their voluntary service from many aspects, they have completed one online special education training and two growth training; In the management operation part, monthly patrol records (including service hours, water quality monitoring data, etc.) are collected and sent to Department of Environmental Protection, Taipei City Government before the 10th of the next month. The monthly report from February to October has been completed; in order to implement the awareness of water environment protection, This year, eight riverbank cleanup and water environment promotion activities have been completed,covering Jingmei River, Xindian River, Keelung River and Danshuei River Basin. The targets are mostly Taipei citizens, enterprises and patrol team volunteers.
It is hoped that through the promotion of this project, the people in
Taipei City will understand the importance of water environment maintenance, so as to protect the water environment together and promote
the sustainable development of the water environment in Taipei City.
