The main focus of this project is to enhance waste reduction and recycling efforts, which include measures such as banning single-use beverage cups, assisting lodging providers in reducing accommodation supplies, and reducing the use of plastic products in traditional markets and night markets. Additionally, the project will aid in analyzing garbage sorting patterns and bagging regulations violations. Finally, it aims to promote resource reuse, aiming to achieve sustainable resource circulation.
Until November 20th, a total of 2,846 inspections using beverage cups have been conducted, and no discrepancies were found in any of them. Among them, inspections at chain convenience stores accounted for the highest number with 1,494 cases (52.5%), followed by inspections at chain beverage stores with 1,244 cases (43.7%). This project focuses on the restrictions and implementation of single-use beverage cups. One training course will be held, and one news announcement will be published on the Recycling Education Network of TYDEP. A briefing session on the restrictions and implementation of single-use lodging items will be conducted for accommodation providers. A discussion session will be held regarding installing secondhand bag recycling bins in public markets. Among them, 13 public markets will no longer actively provide plastic bags, with an estimated reduction of 607,710 plastic bags over six months. However, a briefing session was conducted to discuss the non-use of disposable tableware and plastic tablecloths by external catering service providers. Nine local catering service providers have completed 88 events without disposable tableware. Following the reduction formula recommended by the Ministry of Environment, the total carbon reduction is 202.4 kilograms. The project analyzed data on forced garbage classification and bag breakage from the past three years. The results showed that institutions, schools, and community collection points had an average compliance rate of 97.16% to 97.79% in inspections. In comparison, assessments conducted along vehicle routes had an average compliance rate of 81.26% to 93.76%. Institutions, schools, and centralized communities have had higher compliance rates over the years due to law enforcement policies and recycling education. However, the general public in residential areas is less clear about the recyclability of different waste materials, and future efforts will be directed toward enhancing education to improve compliance rates. Additionally, as part of this project, an audit of flea markets for secondhand goods was completed in 8 sessions, totaling 343 stalls. The collected items primarily comprised household items (46.6%) and used clothing (37.9%). Furthermore, an innovative initiative for this year included a promotion from July 26th to November 12th at the New Yonghe market, encouraging customers to bring their own eco-friendly bags for shopping and participate in a points accumulation program instead of using plastic bags. One thousand three hundred and one individuals participated in the program, resulting in a collective reduction of 16,550 single-use plastic bags.
