In response to the trend of global carbon reduction, the Ministry of Environment started to promote carbon footprint labeling in 2000 after long-term research and planning, encouraging enterprises to quantify the raw material acquisition and manufacturing in the product life cycle , distribution, sales, use, and waste treatment, understand the carbon emissions and reduction hotspots generated, and then look for opportunities to reduce carbon emissions. Then China became the 11th country in the world to promote carbon footprint labeling.
Afterwards, in order to encourage manufacturers to disclose the carbon emission information of their own products, the Ministry of Environment can further find opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the product itself, manufacturing process and supply chain, and even review the green design of products, thereby reducing consumers The greenhouse gas emissions in the use and disposal stages have achieved substantial reduction results.
Therefore, my country began to promote carbon footprint reduction labels in 2014, becoming the fourth country in the world to promote carbon footprint reduction labels. In addition, in order to fully present and reflect the locality of the life cycle carbon footprint calculation, and to meet the extensive carbon footprint calculation service needs of domestic industries, to effectively promote and assist the industry in the disclosure of product carbon information, the Ministry of Environment of the Executive Yuan is in 2012(Renamed Product Carbon Footprint Information Network in 2020). In 2020, the product carbon footprint calculation service platform began to develop and build various functional modules and the carbon footprint emission coefficient database. In 2020, the Taiwan product carbon footprint information network and the product carbon footprint calculation service platform completed the system integration. This helps all walks of life in the industry to build the basic capabilities of carbon footprint information disclosure, and has become an important communication tool for the government and the industry to promote carbon reduction goals, declare their corporate social responsibility and green product marketing.
This plan is to undertake the 2022 "Product Carbon Footprint Information Disclosure and Development Cloud Review and Labeling System Project Work Plan", in addition to continuously incorporating the carbon coefficient of the relevant projects of the Ministry of Environment and introducing carbon footprint or life cycle data of domestic and foreign private organizations, etc. In addition to updating the content of the carbon footprint coefficient database, it also continues to maintain and promote the product carbon footprint information website, so that the carbon footprint calculation process involves the query and reference of carbon footprint emission coefficients, carbon footprint calculation and hot spot analysis, and data quality. Functions such as verification, carbon footprint label inquiry and application, and key review mechanism are always available. The main focus of work in 2023 can be summarized into the following three major items: (1) Accepting applications for carbon footprint labels and carbon footprint reduction labels, and conducting product inspections, (2) Continuously building local carbon footprint emission coefficients and maintenance management products Carbon Footprint Information Network, (3) Promote carbon footprint labels and handle publicity activities.
