Taiwan is an agricultural country. However, due to the vigorous development of industry and commerce, the manpower shortage for agricultural labor has become increasingly serious. The management of weeds in farmland and non-farmland mostly relies on the use of herbicides. Today, herbicides account for 10% of Taiwan's pesticide use. Over one-third of the usage is inappropriate use of herbicides on non-agricultural land, which harms the ecological environment but also causes harm to public health. In the conventional farming methods of farmers, herbicides are often used to make up for the lack of manpower. However, weeds in non-agricultural land are often close to people's living circles. Although the government has stipulated in the Pesticide Management Act that herbicides cannot be used in non-agricultural land, Due to manpower, financial costs, or other considerations, there are still cases of illegal use of herbicides. The concept of banning herbicides on non-agricultural land has yet to be established and promoted among the majority of the people.
This work team is following the "Non-agricultural Weed Management Policy Project" established by the Chemical Substances Management Agency of the Ministry of Environment to promote the correct way to clean up environmental weeds and follow the non-agricultural weed management guidelines to handle the Demonstration of weed control to avoid soil pollution caused by the use of herbicides and protect the environment and public health. Because of this, education and promotion activities are carried out to enhance the relevant awareness and cooperation of government agencies, schools, communities, and the public, to ensure environmental quality and public health.
