Under the challenges of global environmental change, Taiwan is concurrently confronting climate challenges. According to the 2022 report from the United Nations Environment Programme, climate change is having a serious impact on biodiversity and environmental quality. Due to Taiwan's unique terrain, with small and scattered plains and basins, over 70% of the population is concentrated in the six major metropolitan areas in the western region. This concentration leads to increased land use pressure, exacerbating air quality issues. These interacting factors have placed Taiwan in the position of facing a dual challenge in addressing both global climate change and local air pollution issues.
Recognizing this, although air pollution indicators show a noticeable improvement in Taiwan's air quality, as air quality directly impacts public health, it is still necessary to strengthen public awareness through educational initiatives.
