This project, themed around the life cycle of plastics, starts with the collection of domestic and foreign literature, including management regulations, database construction, distribution and usage classification of each stage of the cycle, analysis of economic indicators, and so on. These documents could help propel the management of plastic resource cycle in Taiwan. Through cross-department data integration of various data flows and dynamics, a database and a plastic resource cycle network (platform) are built to incorporate information from import, production and manufacturing to recycling and waste stages, so to clarify and analyze plastic distribution data in Taiwan. The platform is used to search and organize baseline data to construct an overall plastic distribution situation in Taiwan. Through digitized information and figures, and visualized charts and tables, data are presented to show the plastic lifecycle at different stages, laying the foundation for control and analysis of plastic material distribution in Taiwan, and for understanding where the information flow is disconnected. For example, the missing of report at various stages of plastic use, the lack of effective classification of multiple product materials, the difficulty in understanding the usage and sources of plastic products, or incomplete industry data, etc. The project will continue to strengthen the connection and estimation of data through surveys or analysis, in the hopes to grasp the flow of plastics from sources of materials, product manufacturing, sales and application, to the tracking of waste and recycling management. Through baseline data consolidation, data analysis, strengthened and supplementary surveys, it is expected that gaps or disconnection of information in the lifecycle of plastics could be filled, so that the recycling rate of plastics can be improved in Taiwan. The project also hopes to strengthen the management and economic benefits of plastic cycle, and gradually move towards the development of resource recycling, to further establish product classification rules and calculation methods for related carbon reduction benefits that are aligned with related environmental sustainability indicators. This will lay a solid foundation for future efforts in managing and promoting the overall plastic resource cycle.
