The System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA), promoted by the United Nations for many years, serves as a fundamental tool for integrated assessment of Taiwan's current state of environmental protection and resource management. The Environmental Goods and Services Sector (EGSS) is composed of all producers providing environmental goods and services. All goods produced, designed, and manufactured for environmental protection or resource management purposes fall within the scope of EGSS surveys and statistics. The aim is to provide indicators of the production of environmental goods, services, and technologies through statistical and computational results.
This year (2024), based on the compilation results of the EGSS accounts for 2021, the list of environmental products was reviewed in Chapter 2. After deletions and revisions, the list of Taiwan's products was adjusted to 84 items, and the EGSS accounts for 2022 were completed.
According to the results of this year’s trial compilation, the four major variables of EGSS for 2022 were as follows:
Output: NT$1,211,937 million
Gross Value Added (GVA): NT$401,221 million
Exports: NT$283,807 million
Employment: 280,323 persons
Compared to the 2021 EGSS accounts from the previous project and this year’s compilation of the 2022 EGSS accounts (Year-over-Year, YoY), the YoY change for output in 2022 was an increase of NT$76,970 million, representing a 6.78% increase. However, the GVA in 2022 increased by NT$12,997 million, a 3.35% increase compared to 2021. Exports increased by NT$85,892 million, representing a 43.40% increase, while employment decreased by 15,764 persons, a 5.32% decrease.
In 2022, Taiwan's nominal GDP was NT$22,679,843 million, with the EGSS GVA accounting for 1.77% of GDP, down from 1.79% in 2021.
