The core objective of this project is to enhance public awareness of net-zero green living, energy conservation, carbon reduction, and climate change. The project supports the city's green transformation initiatives by mobilizing community participation in constructing low-carbon sustainable homes. The project showcases the achievements of sustainable development through implementing adaptation policies and active participation in evaluations and certifications conducted by the Ministry of Environment.
The project's implementation period spans from January 12, 2024, to November 30, 2024, with significant progress achieved across various areas. Relevant business promotion and meeting activities have been successfully conducted, including completing performance evaluation submissions for the year's second half under the Low-Carbon Sustainability Program. Additionally, events such as the "Low-Carbon Sustainable Homes Certification Workshop," the "Cross-Agency Coordination Meeting," the "Technical Consultation and Review Panel Meeting," the "Climate Change Adaptation Training Course," and the "Low-Carbon Diet Event" have each been held once. Furthermore, two sessions of the "Solar Energy Advocacy and Promotion Workshop" and "Building Diagnostics and Assessment Operations" were organized. These efforts elevate public understanding of climate change adaptation, certification requirements, and green energy development.
In terms of community certification participation, the project has guided one village to achieve "Silver" certification and 16 villages to secure "Bronze" certification. Moreover, 47 villages completed registration, increasing the community participation rate from 73.5% in 2023 to 78.7% in 2024.
Significant progress has also been made in low-carbon actions and demonstration sites. The project has assisted five certified villages while maintaining six action projects. Two villages have implemented wall greening initiatives to reduce heat, while nine have completed 15 tailored low-carbon actions, culminating in establishing one community demonstration site.
Promoting green energy roofs has yielded impressive results, with solar power systems installed in four communities, achieving a total capacity of 83 kWp. This contributes to an estimated annual electricity generation of approximately 95,895 kWh.
Media outreach and promotional efforts have effectively amplified the project's visibility. One hundred fifty promotional items have been distributed, one print media article has been published, and 55 social media posts have been shared, significantly enhancing public engagement.
This year's outcomes are expected to deliver notable environmental benefits, including an additional 68 m² of green space, an annual increase in carbon sequestration of 20 kgCO2e, and achievements of 106,317 kWh of electricity generation and 18,972 kWh of electricity savings. Altogether, these efforts are projected to reduce annual carbon emissions by 61,981 kgCO2e.
Voluntary public participation is the core of advancing energy conservation, carbon reduction, and net-zero transformation. To reinforce Kaohsiung's image as a low-carbon, sustainable city, future efforts will encourage more villages and communities to participate actively, thereby ensuring the continued realization of policy goals.
