The main tasks of this project is to install needed hardware and software to calibrate the UV index measurement instruments; to set up a standard procedure to execute the calibration procedures; to maintain the operation of UV index forecasting system; to transfer the UV index forecasting system to a new computer system; to perform analysis of the UV index forecasting results so as to improve the UVI forecasting.
After eight month execution, we are successful in setting up a UV Instrument Calibration Laboratory (UVICL) which includes control, calibration and storage units, a quality assurance system, and a standard procedure to complete the calibration tasks. Some preliminary tests have also been performed. In all, the system is ready to be operational in the next year to routinely calibrate UV index instruments. In the meantime, we have carefully collected UVI measurement and forecasting datasets and set up a web site for EPA operator to routinely check the statistic nature of Taiwan UVI and analyze the past forecasting performance in the hope to assist operators to improve UVI forecast.
