The Plan for the Promotion of Environmental Technology Incubators is a five-year (2003-2007) project that was launched under the leadership of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of the Executive Yuan this year to facilitate the technological upgrading in the environmental industries and speed up the improvement of domestic environment. Grants are made available for local incubators and companies to develop innovative or workable environmental equipment or technologies. The three major categories of this year’s grant scheme are “hazardous wastes,” “soil and underground water sites,” and “resource recycling and reuse.”
Seven incubators have applied for the grant this year, and, after reviewed by a Technology Review Committee, approval was granted to National Chiao Tung University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Min Chi Institute of Technology, and Yung Ta Institute of Technology and Commerce for the research and development of equipment and technologies under the category of “resource recycling and reuse.”
Being in its first year, this project has experienced many difficulties in the process of its implementation. However, with EPA’s support and cooperation among local incubators, all these incubators have successfully completed their projects with concrete results.
