This project conducted survey and data collection and analysis of production and waste management of domestic and foreign iron steel industries. A baseline data has been established for the industrial waste collection and treatment system for the iron steel industry.
Comments and recommendations have been proposed for revisions or amendment on relevant regulations and for control of recycle and reuse of the iron steel industry wastes.
This project has accomplished field audits on waste production, collection and treatment at 25 iron steel plants, as well as assessment of treatment efficiencies at 10 institutions for treatment or reuse of iron steel industry wastes, such as (1) heavy metal sludge and dust, electric arc furnace dust, (2) spent acid pickle liquor, copper sludge, waste aluminum slag, and waste foundry sand.
