This project was implemented in response to the Declaration and the Plan of Action of the Ocean-related Ministers of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in order to promote partnership between the public and private sectors. Under this project, the 21st meeting of the APEC Marine Resource Conservation Working Group (MRCWG), held April 14-18, 2008, in Piura, Peru, was attended by the principal investigator of this project. In the meeting, the results of the 7th and 8th APEC Roundtable Meetings on the Involvement of the Business/private Sector in 2007 were reported. The 2009 project proposal for the 10th APEC Roundtable Meeting on the Involvement of the Business/private Sector was put forward at the meeting. Furthermore, under this project, the 9th APEC Roundtable Meeting on the Involvement of the Business/private Sector was held in Taipei on September 16-17, 2008. Representatives from Canada, Indonesia, Japan, Peru, Singapore, Vietnam and Taiwan attended the meeting to discuss issues related to marine conservation. The Lead Shepherd of the APEC MRCWG, Admiral Hector Soldi of Peru, was invited to attend the meeting. In addition, Volume X Issues I and II of the APEC Bulletin on Marine Resource Conservation and Fisheries as well as the maintenance work for the project web pages were completed.
