The main objective of this project was to investigate the promotion of compulsory garbage sorting in communities and draft strategies for different types of communities to encourage to the residents to comply with the regulations to improve the recycling performance.
Five hundred and eighty-nine communities were surveyed in this project. The work team has analyzed and discussed the market mechanism of collected recyclable waste, including the ways of collecting and sorting waste in communities, sorted materials, the reasons for deciding sorted materials, the ways of sale recyclable waste, price, how to use the earnings from collecting waste and special methods for recycling, etc. In addition, according to the survey results, the best strategies of garbage sorting for various kinds of communities were suggested.
Ten demonstrations of excellent communities, which showed great performance in compulsory garbage sorting, were conducted to popularize the habits of garbage sorting and recycling to promote waste reduction and resources recycling.
