To adapt the consequence of the global lack of resources and the aggravation of
environmental quality, both environmental improvement of an industry itself and
environmental industries including water reuse, waste recycling, and integrated
consultant services need to be developed continuously. How to create sustainable value
and reduce environmental burdens simultaneously to fulfill the demands of customers
instead of merely pollution control would be a great opportunity for the environmental
industry. According to estimation from Environmental Business International INC.
(EBI), the annual turnover of global environmental industries is around 628.5 billion US
dollars in 2004 and annual growth rate is around 5.5%. Among them, Taiwan accounts
for 0.72%, around 4.5 billion US dollars. The turnover of Taiwanese environmental
industry in 2010 will reach 6.2 billion US dollars if we assume the growth rate of 5%
annually. This project will be focusing on the direction of the policy of the
environmental industry managing, and also will be fousing on the opportunity of market
and maintaining the investment environment in a good condition.
Our project team has completed the trends, measures, and policies of the
environmental industry nationwide and worldwide as scheduled. We also visited and
made an interview with representative companies of waste recycling (waste plastic,
mixed ironware, and acidic solution recycling) and consultant service (including
environmental testing and the consultancy of environmental engineering). The status
quo and their comments and reflection could be regarded as a important reference for
the government to establish the policies or measures to manage the environmental
industry. This program with industry and a forum to observe the demonstration will be
held to analyze the problems faced by industry and research solutions to cope with this
plan of "strengthening the domestic market", "industry body to adjust" and "leading the
export markets" The development of the three main axis in the hope that the
Government's environmental policy, environmental protection industry can be more of a
sound and sustainable development.
