This project was authorized to act for the Office of Sustainable Development of the EPA. It is designed and implemented continuously for international environmental information collecting and trend analysis. The main work in this project involves two parts: (1) to collect, select, and translate environmental news and the latest referable environmental policies; (2) to analyze trends of international environmental protection and environmental regulations and policies. Moreover, it assists in distributing the above outcomes. From March 21 to December 31, 2008, 992 pieces of international environmental news were selected and translated, and 41 issues of international environmental weekly news were highlighted. Daily international news briefs were distributed to subscribers, as well as six feature project reports being completed for those specific environmental topics that were assigned. Three issues of quarterly analytical reports on international environmental protection trends were published. The news collected by this projection was mainly from UK and USA, and it took up about 41%. And issues about integrated policies took up 30.7%. This shows the interdisciplinary feature of environmental policies. Furthermore, as the issues about global warming continue to gain attention; global climate change news articles ranked second highest, taking up 20.1%. Environmental management and water resource management associating with the subject of climate change have also become more and more important international environmental issues, and they take up about 15.2% and 12.1% respectively. Total percentage of the above-mentioned four major topics has reached 78%, many of which are directly or indirectly related to climate change.
