The report is a study of the planning of climate change adaptation policy framework and sectoral adaptation strategies based on the impact of climate change in Taiwan. “Adaptation” includes the responses to reduce climate change impacts in short and long term as well as taking advantages from opportunities. “Adaptation” covers sectors which are agriculture and food security; nature and eco-system; water resource and management; public health; and socio-economic issues. To categorize adaptation work by different properties, they are “preventive and reactive adaptations”; “private and public adaptations”; and “autonomous and planned adaptations”.
The project aims to propose a strategic planning of adaptation policy for Taiwan, which including the framework and the process to strengthen adaptation capacity for climate impacts, to lessen the negative effects while to use the positive effects. Focus groups meetings and discussion are hold to integrate opinions from various professionals, which in the end a “Climate Change Impact Assessment and Adaptation Report for Taiwan” is presented showing what researches and adaptation measures have been done in the past.
It’s urgent to contact vulnerability assessments, constructing adaptation capacity and policy for Taiwan as well as many other countries since climate change has already caused lots of impacts on various areas. That’s why we have to start the adaptation study, planning and actions immediately.
